Back To Basics On Warbal island

Here on the Kei Islands in Indonesia, the weather is still too warm and humid to feel any kind of a holiday spirit. Yes, we've seen Christmas trees and decorations in the shopping mall and quite a few cute houses have their Christmas lights up. Still, I feel like I am in a world way too far from anything wintery festive. Thankfully we have the sun here, though.

The weird thing is that I am longing for Europe and miss wearing layers of clothing, drinking hot cocoa and strolling through the cold. The only thing I can do is wear fall and winter appropriate trends and prints to feel like winter is here too. Of course, I am fooling myself lol. For now, I have to make do with drooling over winter wonderland photos by reading my favorite blogs.

I know, I know we always want the things not available to us don't we?

These photos were taking more than a month ago on beautiful, but  thetiny Warbal island, when the weather was blazing hot with clear blue skies. Now the rain season has officially started and a rough western wind is blowing from the Bandan ocean. I am welcoming this weather change with open arms. Finally, it is cooling off a little making it so much more bearable over here.

It really took me some time to get used to being here. We have been here for two months now and are planning to stay another four, we leave for Amsterdam and are staying there for a few months and then we are thinking about finally settling in Bali for a while. I really love Bali. Out here the numerous bugs terrify me and I am always worried about getting Malaria. The thing that keeps us here is the work we do with our project. More about that subject soon you guys.

Because of the heat, the only thing I can do is keep my looks airy and simple. The outfit I am wearing here has been basically become my day to day costume. For instance, when I try to put on a pair of jeans I have to take them off within half an hour. It is an absolute no go here because of the heat. I have to stick to wearing my favorite pants and light jackets for night time events. Something that rarely happens because most of the time we are in bed by nine A.M. and get up at five in the morning for our morning run. No Christmas spirit here, but hey I get to see the sun come up enjoying the sparkling blue ocean. I shouldn't be complaining right?
